Gmail users are now able to access 'Google Chat' and 'Google Rooms' directly. These features are now available inside Gmail. In such a situation, if you are working on Gmail, then you will not need to exit to open Google Chat App. Users will get four tabs on Gmail Android App- 'Mail', 'Chat', 'Rooms' and 'Meet'.

Difference between Google Chat, Room and Meet-

You will be able to check all your emails in the Mail section, while Google Chat provides you to chat with anyone. Google Meet can be used for meeting and video calling. If you want to share or discuss any topic, then you can create a room here. Let you know that the new tab is available for both Android and web users. Currently, it is not known when iOS users will get this feature.

Users will not be able to access this new update by default. For this, you will have to enable the option of Early Access in the settings. If you want, you can switch to the original version at any time.

Gmail App

The following steps will have to follow to access the Google 'Chat' and 'Rooms' feature on the Android App of Gmail-

  • Open the Gmail App. In the settings, tap on the hamburger menu on the upper left corner of the app.
  • Go to the 'General' section. Now tap on 'Chat(Early Access)'.
  • To access all four tabs in the Gmail app, tap on the 'Try It' option. This feature is available on the Gmail app version 2021.03.07.364486182.

Gmail Web

At present, Gmail automatically does not provide the facility to add Google 'Chat' and 'Rooms'. Therefore, the setting has to be changed manually.

  • First of all, go to the website https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#settings/chat.
  • Go to the settings, tap on the Google Chat (Early Access) in the 'General' option.
  • A pop-up box will open where the use of this service has to be confirmed.
  • After this, don't forget to click on "Save Changes".
