The incidence of cybercrime in the country has increased rapidly. You can complain about incidents related to cybercrime through a helpline number or online. The Government of India also has a National Cybercrime Reporting Portal for lodging cybercrime complaints where one can file complaints online.

You can complain of financial fraud, ransomware etc., along with cybercrime related to women and children through the National Crime Reporting Portal. Following are the steps to register a complaint-

  • Go to the Home page of the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (https://cybercrime.gov.in/Default.aspx). Click on 'File a Complaint. Now click on 'Accept' on the next page.
  • Choose the category of the crime. There are two options: 'Women/Child related Cybercrime' and 'Other Cybercrime'. Click on 'Report Other Cybercrime' to report cybercrime related to incidents other than crime related to women and children.
  • After this, you will go to the login page. If you don't already have an account on this portal, you can create an account by clicking on 'Click here for new user'.
  • Here you have to register yourself. For this, select your state. Then after entering the login ID and mobile number, click on 'Get OTP'. Enter the OTP and solve a question to click on 'Submit'.
  • Then on the next page, update the personal details, including name, e-mail id and address. After updating, click on 'Next'.
  • Here select the category in which to file a complaint. You will also have to fill sub-categories, date and time, incident etc. Along with this, evidence related to the incident will also have to be uploaded. Then click on 'Save as Draft'.
  • If there is any detail related to the suspect or if you have anything of his id, e-mail, photo etc., then register it and click on 'Save Add Draft and Next'.
  • After this, you will have to give your id proof on the complaint detail page. Then click on 'Save and Review'. At last, click on 'I Agree' and then 'Confirm and Submit'. From here, you can download a PDF file of your complaint.

Through Phone Call

You can dial the helpline number of the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal to make a complaint about any cybercrime. The number is 155260. You can call on this number from 9 AM to 6 PM only. If there is an emergency, you can take help from the local police.
